Please note: Every device is different, the estimates in this article are just a general guide. Several variables can affect the power consumption of a given device.
Air-conditioners are the most energy hungry appliances in a home, and thus, one of the most expensive appliances to run during a price spike. Using your Airflex to pre-cool your home with an air-conditioner in the hours before a price spike is recommended, since most price spikes typically happen in the evening. Once your home is pre-cooled, the Airflex will automatically switch off your air-con during the price-spike based on your pre-set preferences in the Voltello app.
Pedestal and desk fans use a fraction of the power compared to an air-conditioner, so they are a much better option during a price spike.
Most air conditioners average round 2kW when running, based on that we can calculate the estimated running cost of an air conditioner during a price spike (inc. GST).
A 2kw system @ $3/kWh for 30mins = $2.10
A 2kw system @ $19/kWh for 30mins = $13.30
A 4kw system @ $3/kWh for 30mins = $4.20
A 4kw system @ $19/kWh for 30mins = $26.60
A 6kw system @ $3/kWh for 30mins = $6.30
A 6kw system @ $19/kWh for 30mins = $39.90
