If you've recently had your solar installed or upgraded, your installer might have set up a Voltello Link device for you too.
Through 2024, new solar compliance requirements came into effect in various states across Australia. This means that new or upgraded solar setups must be able to communicate with energy utilities & grid operators, to report on solar generation, exports and imports. This allows the utilities to have more visibility and control over solar sites, which in turn allows for your site’s export limit to be flexible. These program vary in name by state, for example 'Flexible Exports' in SA, 'Emergency Solar Backstop' in VIC, 'Dynamic Connections' in QLD, and all generally mean the same thing for the customer.
This means that older sites may have a fixed export limit of 5kW at any time, but newer installs which are compliant can have export limits of up to 10~15kW (depending on your location), with periodic lower limits depending on grid strain.
Many inverter manufacturers do not have the communication functionality required for the Flexible Export compliance, which is where Village Energy comes in. The LinkPro and LinkZB connect to your inverter and provide the functionality and control required by the grid operators, to make your site compliant. If your installer has set up a Link device for you, then you shouldn't have to do anything further.
