Why does my Smart Meter need to be installed at the Feed-in point?

If you have a compatible smart consumption meter which communicates with your inverter, we can connect to it and measure the total power on your site. This total power includes batteries and EVs charging. A smart consumption meter is different to a utility-installed meter (such as EDMI meters, etc.).

The feed-in point is the point connecting your site to the grid. Most smart consumption meters are installed at this point, and it is usually required for systems with batteries. However, we occasionally find meters that are installed elsewhere along the power supply, which means that the meter is not actually measuring the site imports and exports. This means that when we limit your inverters to ensure your smart meter is measuring zero exports, the desired curtailment effect will not be applied and we'll actually be liming power at a different point along the line.

Below are example schematics of where the smart meter should be placed, and where we sometimes see placement not in the feed-in path.

If you suspect your smart meter is not installed at the correct point, you should contact your installer and discuss moving it with them.
